AOCMF Clinical Research Projects

Current research programs developed together with AOCID

International, multicenter, prospective registry to collect data on orbital fractures (OFx), their treatment and outcome

Approximately 300 patients presenting with a displaced OFx in the floor and/or medial wall (blow-out fracture) will be enrolled prospectively in this registry. All patients, surgically and non-surgically treated will be followed-up within the registry. Data collection will include patient and fracture details, treatment details, functional, clinical and patient-reported outcomes and complications. CTs or CBCTs will be collected to perform different assessments.

International, multicenter, prospective registry to collect data in patients > 60 years suffering from mandibular fractures

Approximately 200 of patients > 60 years who present a mandibular fracture will be enrolled in this registry. All patients will be treated and followed up according to the local standard (routine) of care at around 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months and 6 months after treatment. Data collection will include patient and fracture details, treatment details, functional, clinical and patient-reported outcomes and complications. Radiographs and/or other images (e.g. CT scan) taken as per standard of care will be collected within the registry.

A multicenter Randomized Controlled Clinical Investigation to investigate the treatment of Double (Bilateral) Mandibular Fractures

Prospective data are being collected in 314 patients suffering from bilateral (double) mandibular fracture randomly treated either with non-rigid fixation on both fracture sides or a combination of rigid fixation on one side and non-rigid fixation on the other side. This is a study where patients are treated as per randomization to one of the two established treatments and followed for further clinical examination post-operatively and at 6 weeks and 3 months after the intervention.

An international, multicenter, prospective registry to collect data of treatment patterns of patients with Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (MRONJ) and their outcome

Approximately 500 patients will be included in this patient registry. Data collected includes demographics, clinical data of underlying disease and use of bisphosphonates, degree and extension of osteonecrosis, osteonecrosis treatment, outcomes and complications within 1 year after treatment. For the analysis, patients will be divided into different groups according to the treatment received

Official registration

International, multicenter, prospective registry to collect data of treatment patterns in patients with bilateral condylar fracture (BCFx) of the mandible

Prospective data are collected in approximately 250 patients sustaining BCFx with or without any additional fracture(s) of the symphysis. Patients are followed-up according to the standard (routine) at approximately 6 weeks and 3 months after the treatment. Data collection includes fracture details, treatment details, functional and patient-reported outcomes and complications).

Planned studies

International, multicenter, prospective registry to collect data of patients treated with alloplastic temporomandibular joint (TMJ) replacements

Prospective data will be collected in approximately 200 patients treated with an TMJ replacement. Patients will be followed up to 5 years after the treatment. Data collection will include underlying disease, treatment details, functional and patient-reported outcomes and complications.
