On 4 March 2018, Bhutan witnessed the country’s first-ever AOCMF event. AOCMF Introductory Seminar was held in Paro, Bhutan in association with 3rd International Craniofacial & Dental Summit - 2018.

"[It was] certainly a watershed moment; interacting with so many enthusiastic participants was truly an exhilarating and humbling experience,” course director Gopal Krishnan explained. “Considering the geography of the region, this course was designed to teach paramedics and dentists to treat facial injuries—including management of dirty wounds and simple jaw fractures—in a primary care setting and surely it was well received."

The government of Bhutan has maintained a system of equitable free health care for its citizens. However, the number of hospitals and doctors remains limited, and some diseases, such as select and difficult cases of cancer, cannot be treated in Bhutan. This seminar was an effort toward equipping local surgeons with current information and enhancing their skills to improve patient care.

Garnering high interest, the seminar was attended by surgeons from across the country. Participants learned the theoretical basis of operative treatment of craniomaxillofacial fractures and their complications with some practical exercises on MMF techniques.
