20 December 2017
Gregorio Sánchez-Aniceto, Director of the OMF department at the 12 de Octubre University Hospital in Madrid, Spain, has been elected Chair of the AO CMF International Board for the term July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2021.
“I feel well prepared and highly motivated to assume the challenges as the forthcoming AO CMF International Board chair,” shares Gregorio (Goyo) Sánchez-Aniceto. “It is certainly the greatest possible honor in my professional career,” highlights the Spanish surgeon from Madrid.
A career-shaping experience
In recalling his start with the AO Foundation, Goyo remembers attending a maxillofacial course in 1990 in Davos. “I was still finishing my residency program at the time and found the course to be a fantastic experience for a young surgeon. This event impacted the trajectory of my professional career,” he shares.
Helping to build a dream
Goyo always had a dream: to create the best community of craniomaxillofacial surgeons from different specialities focusing on excellence in patient care, education, and research.
Ten years after his first experience in Davos, Goyo joined the newly created European Educational and Steering Board, where he witnessed how this dream would start to take shape through his involvement with the AO Foundation.
“AOCMF is a very unique structure,” Goyo explains. “With a growing number of educational activities and participants, our network has expanded in size, professionalism, and worldwide presence in an outstanding manner over the past two decades. We are currently one of the largest medical organizations involved in craniomaxillofacial surgery. With more than 3,400 members and approximately 130 educational activities per year, the dream is coming true,” he confirms.
